AKINSANYA is inspired by my Nigerian/Zimbabwean heritage. In Africa when going to a party, you would usually go to a seamstress with your chosen fabric, for them to create your outfit. This inspired me to create this service but online, allowing people to chose from the fabrics in our catalogue, that best suits their personality and aesthetic. In Africa everyone strives to be the best dressed person in the room. Using bright prints, bold cuts and eye-catching accents, I aim for my designs to embody that vivacious spirit and capture attention in any situation. Paying homage to and drawing inspiration from my Yoruba heritage, my designs fuse the colourful printed fabrics, Geles (headwraps) and traditional embellishments with cutting edge street style staples to create unique, standout pieces.

In addition to my Yoruba roots, my designs are heavily influenced by my materials. I use authentic prints, sourced from independent market vendors during my travels throughout Africa, personally selecting fabrics from the local market stalls in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana. During a material sourcing trip in 2018, I studied the traditional tie-dye techniques in Nigeria used to create these fabrics, and have since incorporated those methods into my own, original digital print designs. I want my pieces to represent the rich history of our heritage, and empower my customers with the confidence to always stand out from the crowds.
