I have previously used this optician for help with repairs and the woman I saw was lovely, kind and helpful. I'm ready for new contact lenses and she confirmed they offer lens subscription service, so thought I'd transfer to them as more convenient than town. I read online about their monthly lens subscription package and contacted them via their online form to make an appointment for a lens sight test and trial. They never replied so I went in to enquire. There was a different woman on reception who immediately told me 'you wont like the price when i tell you'. It was a lot, so I told her I can have free test through work in town if easier and then bring my prescription to Andrew laird for the lens service and she said 'it would be easier for you to just do it all in town then'. it's worth paying the extra for the convenience of not having to go to town each time i need a test etc so explained my reasons for wanting a service in St Thomas, then she told me that the contact lens service 'isn't up and running' although I'd been told about it last time plus it's on their website. I felt like the only way I'd get a service there is if I begged her, she had an excuse for everything and really did not want to serve me so I left. I wondered if I had misread her attitude then read these reviews and realised she really is that rude. I assume she owns the business because I can't believe any business with this many reviews saying the same thing about one person would still employ them. Disappointing, as the other staff I've met there seem lovely, I was looking forward to moving there. They must cringe every time she meets a new customer, a really good opportunity for work experience students to learn how not to do customer service 🙄

Andrew Laird has retired, I saw one of his replacements who seemed a bit annoyed with me for being there, and the specs he prescribed have caused problems after a few weeks. One woman on reception is positively hostile, she seemed determined that I should NOT go there for an eye check at any cost. Weird, as it was all exceptional when Andrew Laird was there.

First time coming to Andrew S Laird to choose some children's glasses for my daughter. From reception to optician everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and interacted well with my children.

I have been with Andrew Laird opticians for just over 25 years. and during that time, I have had excellent care. Andrew is very thorough, very good at his job and diligent in what he does. The staff at the practice are fantastic, everyone is so helpful and I highly recommend them to others. As a recent example, my glasses broke during the lockdown period, I called Andrew, sent my glasses off, he fixed them and posted them back a few days later. Excellent Service!

I've had a lot of trouble getting my prescription right. At the time I was trying to have some driving lessons but I could not read the number plate the driving instructor was telling me to read, so he would not give me any lessons until it was corrected. I have previously been to 3 other opticians so I thought I would try Andrew laird. I first got seen by Juliet who was lovely and tried to be very helpful. But after I got my glasses made up I had the same problem, my vision wasn't clear! So I went back a couple of months later and I saw Andrew laird. I felt he was rude, arrogant and unhelpful, he told me there is nothing wrong with my eyes, I should have no problem reading number plates with his prescription , and I have no reason at all to have tension headaches. And that was it ,End of discussion. He dealt with my situation awfully. And I will not be returning. 😒
