We can also give you advice of walks in the fells and lakes where you can forget the world and relax and enjoy the scenery.

The Cavendish Arms is much more than a Lake District hotel. It's a 450 year old coaching inn, set in the picturesque village of Cartmel, with quaint low beamed ceilings, a wealth of antique furniture and a blazing log fire.

We serve excellent British food using the finest of local produce, wines and traditional beers and ales. All the rooms have been restored to an exceptionally high standard and retain much of the character of the original building with oak beamed ceilings. And if you like a piece of the antique country furniture in the rooms you can buy a piece to take home! You can relax outside the Cavendish with a chilled drink or specialty coffee and watch the world go by, or sit beside the babbling river Eea. This is the perfect location to stay for a weekend at Cartmel Races. The area around Cartmel is full of outdoor activities and we are just a stone's throw away from the seaside and Morecambe Bay, and within easy reach of the central lakes, Coniston Water and Windermere.

Please be aware if you are booking on behalf of a larger party with multiple rooms or for any race day event through out the year payment will be required at the point of booking or before your stay.

We had a really good night stay at the Cavendish Arms. We had a warm welcome when we arrived, and enjoyed a drink at the bar before heading out to dinner. Breakfast was spot on the next day, nicely cooked and with a good selection on the menu. We returned the next evening just to have a wine and some snacks - Olivier behind the bar was really attentive, professional, and funny - despite being busy. Really good job all round. We’ll definitely be back for dinner at some point. Cheers.

We have just spent two nights at the Cavendish Arms. A Lovely 400 year old pub in Cartmell. It’s spotless and really Comfortable. We can now understand why it’s frequently fully booked up. The food was excellent with a very large breakfast cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend this pub if you want to enjoy a nice place to stay, and it’s not far from the Lakes. It’s a pretty village next to the race course. Many thanks for a really nice visit. I had a lovely family meal in the Cavendish Arms Restaurant recently while holidaying nearby. There were 4 adults and 2 children and although we hadn't booked in advance the staff were very helpful in accommodating us. The menu was varied and we all found something to suit, food was fabulous and I couldn't fault it. Great service and delicious food!

We walked to Cartmel from Grange-over-Sands whilst visiting friends. The village itself is really beautiful and quaint and probably highly overlooked for the likes of Windermere and Ambleside etc. Anyway, we'd worked up an appetite and the Cavendish kindly squeezed us in even though they were fully booked up. The food was cooked from scratch and they had a dedicated vegan menu which was great as my wife and I are vegan. It was really delicious, tasty food washed down with some local ales. A little pricier than pubs near home but well worth it for the quality of the food. The staff were great too. Very attentive and helpful. Would highly recommend the Cavendish Arms for a visit.
