Chef Director Matt Cheal has always been keenly interested in food from a very young age, having grown up in his local family-owned hotel and restaurant, and after a career that included working his way up to the position of Head Chef of a Birmingham Michelin Starred restaurant Matt was able to achieve his long-held goal – Cheal’s of Henley. 

Together with the total support of his wife Emma, and parents Tony & Julie the family acquired the property that is now Cheal’s of Henley during 2015, and following a total restoration of the beautiful old, beamed building on the High Street, with the doors opening for our first service during October of that year. 

The restaurant offers 30 covers in the main restaurant plus an additional 12 covers available in our elegant separate private dining areas – ideal for celebrations or business meetings with dining. 

Matt and his team offer diners seasonal, and wherever possible locally sourced products, presented in delicious and inspirational creations by our dedicated teams, both in the kitchen and front of house. 

It is hard to believe that we are now into our seventh year and following the past, torrid couple of years, we are at last enjoying a period of calm and optimism during spring 2022 and are looking forward to summer by when we plan to have completed further works to our garden area in time for summer pre dining drinks in the heart of Henley in Arden. 

With input from all our talented kitchen team, led by recently promoted Head Chef Matt Nicholls, our menus will change and evolve throughout the year to compliment the changing seasons. 

Our passion is to serve the finest foods and wines, delivered in elegant but casual surroundings, by a team who have one overwhelming goal – to satisfy completely all our guests. 

On behalf of all at Cheal’s of Henley I look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests, during 2022 and beyond.

We had a superb dinner at Cheal’s last evening together with our son Lee and his wife Samantha. The service, as always, was immaculate… Impossible to have any criticism. The food was beautifully cooked and presented - I have to use the word DELICIOUS. I seldom recommend restaurants because I feel that most chefs just “ go through the motions” and leave customers wishing they had eaten at home. Cheal’s is so good in every respect that I wholeheartedly r3commend it to all who enjoy lovely food in a lovely venue with top class staff.

Mouthwatering experience not to be missed. I have not had fish cooked any better than this. The gazpacho appetizer was to die for and the bread exquisite.

This place is perfect for a meal for friends or family. Has a range of menus to fit different price ranges and needs. We had the tasting menu for a special occasion and both the food and service were fantastic. Eve our waitress was discreet but also super attentive and efficient. The atmosphere was elegant and intimate. Would definately recommend and go again.

Incredible meal. We had the tasting menu and every dish was delicious. I love trying foods I wouldn't usually make myself and this was a really special treat. Service impeccable too, seamless topping up of water and perfect timing between dishes. Where is their Michelin star already?
