1. The Manifold Trail

A short but very attractive walking/cycle route along the route of the former Leek & Manifold Light Railway. Look out for the impressive Thor’s Cave and interesting rock formations along the way and stop for lunch at the lovely National trust tea rooms at Wetton Mill or take a picnic to have down by the river.

2. Tittesworth Reservoir

Located just outside the mill town of Leek on the edge of the Peak District National Park, this Severn Trent reservoir is another great day out for all the family. There are two lovely walks around the reservoir, the shorter trail is only 1.5miles and is ideal for a gentle stroll and suitable for pushchairs. For bird watchers and wildlife lovers, there are two hides available to use. The fantastic large adventure play area is suitable for children between the ages of 2 and 15 years old. The large sand pit is especially popular so don't forget to bring your bucket and spade! You are very welcome to take your own picnic and there are plenty of idyllic spots for this, but you can also enjoy a barbecue in the new designated area.

3. The Roaches

The Roaches, with Hen Cloud and Ramshaw Rocks form a gritstone escarpment which marks the south-western edge of the Peak District. A mecca for walkers and climbers with some of the best gritstone climbing  in the country. Once you have reached the top of the rocky ridge there are stunning viewing across the Staffordshire moorlands. Obviously no trip would be complete without catching the ‘winking man.’

Great private self catering pub ideal for big groups. We were 25. Nice location in the heart of the village and good for Peak District attractions. Strongly recommended.

A wonderful location for larger groups, with a series of well-appointed, cosy cottages surrounding a central courtyard. Having an entire pub to yourself is a lovely experience; they can even hook up a keg of ale to one of the pumps! Everything was clean, bed linen and towels provided, and there is a great little general store just over the road. My kids enjoyed the large bathtub, and we enjoyed the large beer fridges! We will definitely be returning.

We filled most of the cottages and main house. The weather was against us and with several kids to entertain, it could have been tough, however it wasn't. The bar area was a great communal space and the local ale on tap was a win. The outside courtyard was great when the weather broke long enough for a BBQ! The kitchen was well equipped and plenty of fridges, cookers and storage to feed a houseful. The rooms were clean, modern and comfy. There were a few plug sockets that didn't work. The WiFi was pants and there's little to no mobile signal. While I'm happy being off grid it did cause issues when some of our party got list and couldn't contact anyone. The service from the owners was great. Hopefully we'll be back in future.

We had a large group of adults, playing boardgames, eating and drinking all weekend. The kitchens are great with minor grumble that the fans are underpowered, but you can open a lower door and window to mitigate. Oven dishes all actually fit the agas and knives were OK sharpness wise. Layout of general space was great. All the cottages for sleeping were well maintained, but the plumbing, based on powered suction could be loud at night. It's a great space for large groups and we'd go again.
