Information about the charges for non-household waste (DIY) at our recycling centres

RE: Government announcement on DIY Charging at Household Waste Recycling Centres

On 18 June 2023, the Government announced their intention to abolish charges on small amounts of DIY wastes brought to Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC’s). Larger amounts may still be charged for.

We are awaiting further information and guidance of when this will commence, until then all DIY charges across all of Oxfordshire’s seven HWRC’s remain in place.

Please note the Government’s announcement did not abolish all charges but set a minimum level to be accepted for free, larger amounts will still be able to be charged for.

At present the Government have indicated that the amount of waste accepted for free will be as follows:

I would call this facility life and surrounding savings. I would also request to keep used or working items aside so that people who need it can use it and further reduce junks and wastes

Don't bring any soil here, I had some soil from my garden loaded it in small bags and in my boot only to be told that the charge is 2£ for a small bag! I paid 20 pounds to throw some soil away. You better off throwing it away on side of a layby. Well done council

I've used this place regularly for the past couple of years - layout is nice and straightforward. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Expect to pay a fee, which is standard across OX, for any DIY materials (check online) but it's not much.

Unimpressed... Got there at 4.50 only to be told that they had to shut the gate early due to the amount of people in the queue already on site. That would be fair enough but the guy then proceeded to open the gate for the lady in the car behind me! Seems a little discriminatory for a council service, maybe next time I'll wear a wig...
