High Lane Oatcakes was established in June 1980, taking over an existing bakery, which went back over 100 years, and was using the original recipe, which we bought with the business. The more we got involved in the making of the oatcakes we began to experiment with the ingredients, to try to enhance the Oatcake taste, texture and appearance. After numerous tasting sessions amongst friends, and ourselves we finally arrived at what we believe to be the ideal oatcake. The trusted recipe we developed is the same recipe we use today. The Staffordshire Oatcake, a regional delicacy exclusive to the Potteries area of Staffordshire until recently, are now available by mail order, through our family run Oatcake Bakery, first established over 80 years ago. Staffordshire Oatcakes are similar to a pancake but made from white flour, oatmeal and yeast etc. Oatcake bakers have their own closely guarded recipe. The Oatcake (Peculiar to the potteries area of Stoke on Trent) has to be one of the most versatile food products on the market today, being as an alternative to bread and breakfast with bacon, cheese, egg, beans, mushrooms etc, or as a vehicle for fast food outlets where the ingredients are placed on an oatcake, which is then rolled and microwave in seconds. The Oatcake as well as being delicious as a savory dish is also excellent as a sweet course, e.g. lay out oatcake flat, sprinkle with brown sugar, slice a banana into two, long ways and add one half of banana to sugared oatcake, add chopped hazel nuts (optional) and roll up oatcake.

Since poveys have been taken over this place had taken a nosedive. Had a sausage and cheese filling and the sausage was cut up into pieces instead of a whole one and it was spread out so effectively not getting a whole sausage it really looked a poor show not enough to fill a child never mind an adult never anywhere have I been served a sausage cut up into pieces. The oatcakes have also become smaller and they don't sell sandwiches like the original owners did. Won't be going again bad news since poveys took over.

Really lovely shop. I grew up down South, so oatcakes are a new concept to me but they're delightful! The hand-written note from Andy the baker in my order today really made my morning too 😇

I have gone to High Lane oatcakes for as long as I can remember. Always tasty food, always service with a smile... Today I stood and waited to be served with no acknowledgement for five minutes... one person cooking, one person baking, fair enough. Two people looking and chatting in the back, one person ducked under the counter on the phone. Nobody even said be there in a min or any other kind of reassurance that I will be served. So I left. It's been sliding since Poveys took over on order time and online orders take the priority now, but today was terrible. This place has lost its heart, and that is sad.
