1. The Royal Oak Pub

As our award winning pub is only 0.8 mile stroll down the lane, it would be rude not to pop in and sample the extensive menu and try the various local beers on offer.  Reservations are recommended, please call 01298 83288.

For further information please visit the Royal Oak website.

2. The Tissington and High Peak Trails

With the Tissington and High Peak Trails close by you can walk for miles along these old railway lines. Both trails meet at Parsley Hay, the Tissington Trail runs along a 13 mile route from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay, while the High Peak Trail is 17.5 miles longroute from the High Peak junction near Cromford to Dowlow. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the traffic-free trail is ideal for horse riders, cyclists and walkers of all abilities. It is also suitable for wheel chairs and pushchairs along the flat sections and the trail is mainly mud free which is quite rare in the Peak District. To find the nearest access turn left out of Hurdlow Grange and walk up the lane for ½ mile and you will come to a track clearly marked on you right, follow this until you reach the beginning of  the trail on the right hand side. The nearest bike hire can be found at Parsley Hay which is 2.5 miles away and is at the junction of the High Peak and Tissington Trails.

Click here for more information on Parsley Hay cycle hire.  (Parsley Hay does shut for Winter from 01st Nov until February)

3. Chatsworth House and Park

No visit to the Peak District would be complete without visiting the fabulous Chatsworth Estate. There really is something to do for every member of the family - The Farmyard and Adventure playground, the magnificent house and the gardens which are equally as impressive as the house , with the maze, the garden trails, and the famous water cascade to keep the little ones occupied.

What a fabulous venue with lots of wildlife (kestrels, linnets, bats). Fairly dark skies so great for stargazing. Lovely walks straight from the house and easy access to Buxton and Bakewell. Lots of grassy areas for children to play. Excellent facilities with plenty of basic supplies.

Somewhat disappointed 😞 Beautiful setting, but basic interior and very basic bathrooms. Very much on top of neighbouring guests with no privacy nor comfort outside Great location for walking

A very average stay for the price - surprised by these reviews. Whilst the cottage we booked was pleasant was very small and by no means fit for 6 adults as advertised. The living area is small and bleak and the bedrooms are compact, some with no space for even a small cupboard. The kitchen was poorly equipped with the bare minimum provided. You pay a surplus for pets and we were left no food/drink bowl for the dog which was disappointing. Unfortunately we were unable to leave the kitchen door open due to the number of flies around the property - this would need addressing for future guests. The outdoor area is lovely and the area is rural yet beautiful. However, for the high price paid for this cottage, you would expect a comfy table/chairs outside, not a bench. Whilst we appreciate due to covid certain things are required to be removed but we were left with the bare minimum. We don’t see the harm in leaving a few small bottles of shower gel for example, that can be used and disposed of safely. If a bottle of washing up liquid can be left then arguably why not this? We had to use ripped up cardboard boxes for kitchen placemats to protect the table. If the price had been lower we would have been less disappointed - this really needs addressing as we left feeling upset that we had paid so much for our family holiday and should have sadly gone elsewhere.

We stayed here for a company off-site for a couple of days, it was perfect. We all had our own space but came together for meals and to work. Perfect to spend time together away from the office in beautiful surroundings whilst planning for the next phase of the business.

It is very remote especially on a snowy, windy Friday night, but it is convenient for wonderful Buxton, darling Bakewell and lovely Ashbourne etc and it's immaculate. Well equipped but the dishwasher didn't work, bummer, and we had probs with the electrics which kept tripping until we realised the dishwasher was the culprit. Great service though, staff came round quickly and sorted what they could. Offered us next door dishwasher but it was easier to wash up by hand
