Although developed through the years some of the oldest buildings and stables date back to 1830. The Marven family have owned and run the business from 1920. The stables and livery were started some 40 years ago; with a passion and understanding of horses we take pride and care in each and everyone of our 44 horses currently on our yard.
Set in 30+ acres of pasture land with new and older traditional brick stabling, the history of Marvens continues in the hands of Debbie Marven.
Never ridden before but always wanted to try it? Experienced rider, junior or senior, wanting to further their riding skills? Want to get fit for 2022, but want something a bit different? We cater for everyone!

graham Davis5 StarBooked a private riding lesson for our daughter, who learnt to ride here 29 years ago. Was great for her to catch up with familiar faces and some of the now old original horses. Sarah Kennedy1 StarUsed to be a lovely yard, now run down and past it. Over priced for only being able to ride in a 20 meter school, unqualified staff, terrible atmosphere.
Shop around there's better schools out there offering more for less money on better condition horses.Monday 9th January 2023
SHARON THREADGOLD5 StarI love Marvens. I am an older rider with physical limitations and both the instructors and young ladies who lead are so patient and hard working.
The horses and ponies are an absolute delight who are also very patient and provide such joy and laughs.
There are other lovely animals too who provide many laughs and entertainment including donkeys, geese and alpacas.
On top of all that, nothing is too much trouble and you won't find better value.
I have worked in a few stables (although never Marvens) and Marvens is my favourite.
I thoroughly recommend you try Marvens for yourself. You won't regret it.Wednesday 22nd July 2020
Michelle Nial5 StarI took my 5 year old son here for his 1st riding lesson, he absolutely loved it, I couldn't praise the place more, everyone was so welcoming. My boy can be a little shy but the lovely lady Sarah (as my son tells everyone) along with everyone else encouraged, praised and made the whole experience a memorable one for him and me. Mark Freeman5 StarVisited for pony riding morning 9:30am-1pm with 8year old son. He thoroughly enjoyed the 1.5hours of riding time and learning about grooming the ponies. He was less keen on cleaning out the stables though. 🤣
He thoroughly enjoyed it. Make sure you take a packet lunch and drinks.
