Richard started playing the Piano at 4 years of age and took to it quickly. After auditioning at the Royal College of Music at the age of 8, he was promised a full-time place upon reaching eleven but family circumstances meant that he was unable to take up that offer. Having been a boy chorister, Richard studied Church Organ under John Flower and was the organist at Christ Church, Totland Bay for 4 years until his university years where he studied Piano under John White and Music with Gavin Bryars.

Upon joining H.M. Forces (Army) in the Staff Band of the Royal Corps of Transport, Richard attended the Royal Military School of Music (Knellar Hall) and won the coveted Cassel's Prize for Best All-Round Musician - studying Piano with Veronica Clayton and Percussion with John Cave. Many Royal engagements followed in subsequent years – whether ceremonial or informally playing cocktail piano for Royal receptions.

Since then, Richard has gone on to play with artists and ensembles such as Jess Conrad, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Andrews Sisters and he has even entered the Eurovision Song Contest!

A vast real-world experience of classical, jazz or contemporary music brings professionalism, musicality and invention to Richard’s teaching which many of his private and school pupils - from beginner to diploma level - can attest to.

With the advent of the Covid -19 pandemic in 2020, all of my lessons are being taught online with great success. Students are equally if not more motivated and results have been surprisingly excellent - given the lack of an intimate one-to-one learning environment that has previously been the case.

As a direct result of this, I am more than happy to offer lessons to adults and children on a purely on-line basis - giving people flexibility to go about their lives learning the Piano without the need to factor in travel time to my residence.

We can always reassess the distance learning once the pandemic has subsided - should you wish to.

I shall be pleased to discuss your requirements with no obligation.

Thank You.
