We took our son to Rio's for his first hair cut and they were amazing. Deni was so kind and patient and our son was relaxed and chilled the whole time. It was such a lovely experience. We were also given a lovely certificate with a photo and a lock of his hair. Thank you very much.

As a Brazilian woman with very Brazilian 4c hair, I know how difficult it is to find someone who can cut my hair in the UK. So I was overjoyed to learn that a Brazilian hair stylist (with hair similar to mine) had opened a saloon in St Ives. I hadn't cut my hair in over a year, so I was looking for a way to bring more shape to my curls. I went to the saloon in March-2022, and the team there was pleasant. The hair stylist began cutting my dry hair, particularly in the back due to all the damage/broken hair. It was the first time I'd seen someone cut my hair dry like this – I'd seen it on Instagram before, but it was the first time I'd seen it done to my hair. By the end, she washed my hair and trimmed it a little more. She had suggested using a hair thinning shear, which I strongly opposed because I like the volume in my hair and did not want to lose it. The whole process was finished in less than 30 min. As a result, she cut out a lot of the damaged/broken hair, but the hair lacks shape. When the hair is dry, it is still possible to use clips to shape it slightly, but when wet, the hair is simply unpleasant. I would never go out with wet hair because it is simply misshaped. And it's a shame because I used to enjoy using my hair wet as much as I enjoy the dried hair. The fact that I can see the parts of the hair being longer than others is also very triggering for my OCD. Only a month after the cut, I'm already thinking it would be nice to go to another saloon and tidy it up again in nice layers. It was a lesson learned about cutting dried hair. And I would not recommend this saloon to cut hair like mine.

I waited a while to write this review, as I wanted to be balanced and not write while I was still upset. I’m trying to learn how to live with my curly hair, so decided to book an appointment. I spent Christmas in isolation looking after my partner who had covid, so didn’t take great care of myself or my hair, and was hoping for a real pick me up and some advice. Sadly, I found that I immediately felt belittled and almost shamed for the fact that my hair wasn’t in top condition, and rather than advice I felt I received criticism and passive comments. I understand that the staff here are very knowledgable and know far more than I do, but I felt this was handled in a way that made me feel embarrassed. I wasn’t offered the chance to say what I wanted, and the stylist parted my hair without asking where I usually parted it and started trimming. I was also supposed to stay after to have my eyebrows waxed, but feeling the way I did, I didn’t remind them - and paid and walked out within half an hour. I’m sure that all the 5 star reviews here are warranted and that this place is capable of providing that service, but it’s not what I received when I visited.
