Heat Warning Update

Saturday 16th July 2022, 18:00

Yesterday evening the Met Office increased the amber alert to red, indicating an extreme heat warning for Monday and Tuesday.

The Department for education have made it clear schools should remain open. They have also stated that school leaders are able to put their own safety plans in place. We also know that many parents/carers have concerns about sending their children to school in such unprecedented weather. We have therefore now reviewed our plans:

On Monday 18th/Tuesday 19th parents/carers have the option to:

1) Send children to school as normal 

2) Collect their children at 13:00, after lunch, to avoid the hottest part of the day. If children are at school for lunch they will be kept indoors. This would be counted as an authorised absence.

3) Keep children at home. This would also be recorded as an authorised absence. Please email [email protected] if you choose to do this.

While in school on those two days our plans to keep children safe include:

- Reduce time outside; when outside they will be kept in the shade

- Ice pops will be provided each day

- Ensuring children stay hydrated

- Doors and windows will remain open

To support us in keeping children safe in the sun please ensure:

- Scrap school uniform for these two days! Come to school in thin and comfortable clothes, no jumpers or cardigans!

- Sun cream is applied before school (staff are not allowed to apply sun cream for children)

- All children bring their water bottle

- All children wear a sun hat (sunglasses optional)
