Message from Steve our rector November 18th 2022

Here at St Nicholas we would love to welcome you into our community, whether that be in person or online and we are in the wonderful position opening all our midweek and weekend groups again fully, please do visit our downloads section and have a look at everything listed on our weekly leaflets.

Christmas is coming, to celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus we have got lots planned, we have got our Christmas fayre on the 3rd of December, but more than that it is also the day which we celebrate our namesake, ST Nicholas. We are planning to collect toys for the salvation army, have lots of craft stalls, Homefield school choir are going to sing for us, we have got our traditional carol service coming up, a Christingle service , and new for this year we are going to have a walking lantern nativity through the village ending up at the church for the Christmas story and carols led by the Salvation Army.

Even though we have a lot going on we will never lose sight of why we are doing it, Christmas is a celebration of Jesus becoming man to offer the gift of eternity through the cross.

We would like to try and keep everyone safe and well, and although the guidelines are not mandatory we will still be offering sanitiser for your hands on entry and we will be a mask friendly venue.

You would be very welcome to any of our services, we see ourselves very much as a ‘hospital for sinners’ rather than a ‘museum for saints’ to  use a well known quote.  Whatever your background you can be assured of a very warm welcome.

Why not come just as you are and see why we live the way we do and what a difference having Jesus in your life might make?

If you would like to support our ministry here in Bradwell, and help us with the upkeep of the buildings and the churchyard, bearing in mind we get no external funding, all of our running expenses comes from our congregation you can use our just giving link here – https://www.justgiving.com/stnicholas-bradwell or you could scan this QR code, your support is very much appreciated.

We are looking forward secure in the knowledge passed to us via the prophet Jeremiah, ‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Bradwell is a bigger place than I expected. The church is near the school and surrounded by housing. What also surprised me was the number of relatively modern graves and the orderly way they were placed in the churchyard and the uniformity of the colour of the headstones. Not quite the military precision of memorial graveyards but still a little OCD in it's layout. Unfortunately it was locked on my visit even though it was advertised as being open at that time.

Attended our nephew's wedding here. Lovely pretty church. Kind, caring people and the vicar was great. It was a wonderful service and we could take as long as we liked for photos and to throw confetti.

One of the few remaining Saxon round tower churches that remain in the country. Also the parish church where I was born.
