We are nestled in the lovely historic village of Horndon on the Hill, run by the same family for over 75 years.

The Bell Inn is a  15th Century Coaching Inn. The two busy bars have the warm, friendly atmosphere of a ‘proper’ pub.  There’s an open fire, numerous ales on hand pump and a carefully curated wine by the glass list. In the Bell restaurant, themenu changes daily, using seasonal and local produce where possible.

The Bell is featured in all the ‘serious’ guides and has won numerous industry awards including being recommended in The Sunday Times Food List and Good Pub Guide as one of the 10 best gastropubs in the UK, The Times Cool Hotel Guide and The Telegraph Best hotels in Essex.

Just up the road The Ostlers has transformed into a takeaway & bar.  There is a modern buzzy feel as you sit down to enjoy your breakfast. At present The Ostlers is only open for breakfast but  watch this space…

The Bell Inn Hotel has rooms upstairs in the Bell, and in the beautiful Georgian properties next door but one, are 26 individually styled bedrooms featuring modern and period twists.

We can also offer space for private events such as intimate weddings, celebrations  & social gatherings and space for training & meetings (all these events & gatherings will follow the current and relevant government guidelines.)

Went for Sunday lunch and was really disappointed. They stated that a lot of the dishes were gluten free but in fact they never offered a gluten free alternative. So I had roast pork without the sage and onion stuffing, the Yorkshire pudding or the gravy. It’s easy to replace these items for a gluten free one but they didn’t even though I had called them to let them know of my dietary requirements. The meal was very expensive for 2 slices of pork, some roast potatoes and a bit of veg! Won’t be going again.

Walked up to the pub with my brother on a sunny day for a few late afternoon drinks. Quite empty inside as most of the customers were sat at the tables outside.....including us. An OK selection of beers and ciders but what surprised me most were the prices - which, in this day and age (and for a pub l'd always thought was expensive) weren't too bad at all. A very pleasant couple of hours, topped off with one of their signature Scotch Eggs. Lovely !

Booked for Sunday lunch and loved it. Wasn't overly busy when we arrived staff were very attentive and food was delicious. Have been here before and was not disappointed on my return.

Went with friends for dinner, the menu is small but you will find something that you like . There is a good atmosphere about this place and it shows in the happy staff . The food was very tasty, the drinks were cold , the staff were polite and friendly, what more could you ask for .
