The Boat Inn has been owned and operated by the Woodward family since 1877 when it formed part of the Duke of Grafton's 'Wakefield' estate. In those early days, the inn was run in conjunction with the family's other businesses - the local butchery, bakery, smallholding and working narrowboats.
The Boat Inn is believed to be the longest running family pub, that has maintained the same family name throughout (140+ years), and is therefore claimed to be the longest lineage of licensee in the country.

Sarah B5 StarStopped here after visiting the museum and had a boat ride. Reasonable prices, good sized portions, especially the kids meals, and good service. We sat outside and watched our children helping the canal volunteers to open the locks, and stroke all the passing dogs !! They also enjoyed trying out skittles !!Monday 30th May 2022
Keith Evans4 StarThis is a lovely family owned pub and restaurant. This is run and owned by the forth generation family. The building is steeped in history and is built next to the canal side and locks. The bliss worth tunnel is approximately 400 MTRS along the tow path,a lovely walk.Canal boat trips run from the pub to the entrance of the tunnel and back.
The is a museum on site well worth a visit as is the whole area.a good days outing.Monday 13th June 2022
