The Clock Workshop

Steve’s grandfather started work in Witney in 1910 and set up his own shop – a business which was carried on by Steve’s father. After gaining first class qualifications from a British Horological Institute college course in 1973, Steve began making and repairing clocks and watches himself. He regularly services clocks that his grandfather and father worked on, continuing 100 years of family craftsmanship and customer service. Fred Fletcher started repairing clocks and watches when he was still at school and started his apprenticeship at White’s watch repairers on Batt Hill, Witney in 1910. He returned to the trade after serving in the army in the First World War and eventually started his own clock and watch repair business in The Crofts. He was still repairing clocks when he died in 1982. (Watch and Clockmakers rarely fully retire!) Like his father before him, John Fletcher started repairing watches while he was still at school and, after national service, joined the family business. He became one of the area’s main trade watch repairers, working for a number of Oxford jeweller’s shops. He carried on repairing watches until his untimely death in 2007. Our watchmaker, Sylvain Giraud, has always had a passion for fixing things and using tools. He studied watchmaking in Nantes in France and Morteau, next to Switzerland. He joined our team in 2017 bringing with him a vast knowledge of watches and an extensive personal watch collection!

The your lady that served me was polite and very helpful had my watch battery changed while I went shopping, can't fault this shop or staff prices are very reasonable highly recomended. Else where In the past I've had to wait for five day's to get i my watch back.

Recently I took my gold watch in for repair and Sarah who served me, was polite helpful and reassured me that my late father's watch would be well looked after. I was given a compl;eet time of around 2-3 weeks based upon the work load they alreayd had. I agreed with that. Low and behold a few minutes l;aer Sarah called me to say that the face glass had been replaced straight away as they had a few moments available. Great service, great customer care and I will go back again for them to give my watch a full service later this year. Thank you!
