Set in the picturesque village of Abbots Ripton with access to beautiful walks on the local estate, The Elm has everything you want from your perfect countryside pub; A glorious garden, a roaring fire, comfortable rooms, delicious food and a wide selection of drinks. The Grade II-listed building was built, as an open hall, in the late 15th Century to offer hospitality to the drovers bringing cattle down from  Scotland (along the Bullock Road) to the market at St.Ives. It was later altered with the insertion of a brick chimney in the early 17th century. The Fellowes family, that own and run the pub, came to the area around the same time the pub got its chimney… Set in the picturesque village of Abbots Ripton with access to beautiful walks on the local estate, The Elm has everything you want from your perfect countryside pub; A glorious garden, a roaring fire, comfortable rooms, delicious food and a wide selection of drinks. The Grade II-listed building was built, as an open hall, in the late 15th Century to offer hospitality to the drovers bringing cattle down from  Scotland (along the Bullock Road) to the market at St.Ives. We work closely with local quality producers who are dedicated to their craft. Game is from our estate and what we can’t grow ourselves we source from local East Anglian farmers and supplement our own foraging with professionals from different regions to help us find interesting wild ingredients. We offer a concise seasonal menu alongside regular pub ‘classics’. All our 4 bedrooms are newly furnished and individually designed with complementary artworks and estate sourced timber. All beds are king size (except for the family room which is a superking) with feather down pillows and Cole and Lewis bed sheets. Coffee machine and teas are available along with early check-in at midday.

Excellent Christmas day lunch. Nicely cooked Turkey dinners and steak choices but the sea bass on a bed of butter beans was a little disappointing in taste and presentation. But all other dishes from canapes to desserts and coffee were very good. Staff were very friendly and efficient, lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, low noise levels made it a very pleasant lunch.

Had a meal at The Elm, my friend had a large glass of wine dropped on her, she was soaked, top and jeans. Mistakes happen and waitress was lovely, it was very unfortunate and waitress apologised. The issue was how it was managed by the owner/manager, no apology or remorse for the fact that my friend was sat in wine soaked clothes, not to mention the top that was dry clean only and cold wet legs for the remainder of the evening. As a minimum I would have expected the owner to have not charged my friend for her meal, we were told they wouldn’t charge us for the glass of wine that was dropped over my friend! I absolutely accept mistakes happen, no blame to the waitress who we really felt for but it’s how an establishment deals with situations like this that left a bad taste for us all.
