A lovely pub in the heart of the village. Have visited for lunch and dinner several times before. We had guests visiting us from Wales yet despite slow service on pour last visit we decided to go back. For a Friday night it was unusually quiet. Approx 6 tables max occupied upon arrival. At least 5 items we tried to order from the menu were not available. The main course finally arrived (none of us ordered a starter) over an hour after ordering and having to chase our meal. Consistently having to get the waiter/ress attention for service....needing drinks etc. We ordered 2 desserts out of 5 of us...again waited ages. Restaurant practically empty and other guests receiving their orders before us. Two and a half hours later we asked for the bill. Food average. Service very poor.

We were attended to very quickly, ordered a drink and shown to our table. We we were greeted by the staff with a smile and friendly attitude. On ordering the soup the waitress told me it wasn't available as it didn't show on her tablet, she then said she would go and check. She came back and told me there was soup after all, so I ordered a bowl and requested no bread. The soup came with bread and was only warm, so she took it back to get it re-heated. My next course was Caesar's salad, and I asked for added chicken. She did say they didn't come with chicken to which I pointed out that I could add it as an extra, she then pointed out that there was no chicken available so I opted for and egg, assuming it was a boiled egg to go with my salad! When the meal came to me there was a fried egg perched on the top, and a load of chicken!!!. we then ordered a bottle of white wine; which I had to remind the staff about. When the wine arrived there were no glasses. I asked the waitress for the glasses and had to remind her about those too. I got the impression that there were new staff members on the training stage so I can't blame them but was still very disappointed with our evening out. This pub was run by my Husbands grandfather in the early 1900's! I wonder what he would have had to say. I would appreciate a reply to my comments.

Had a great meal on a busy Friday night. Service was excellent. Thanks so Michaela. U r brilliant. Well the pork belly was so delicious especially with the black pudding mash. Veg cooked perfectly. The sauce/gravey was tasty too. Definitely will go again.

Sad to say my second stay here was awful, room number 1 is shocking, little help from staff who didn't seem to care about my issues, breakfast took over 30 minutes to arrive which made me late for the meeting I was attending. I was really looking forward to go back here but in reality was badly let down and doubt I'll return in the future

Expensive food for what you’re getting. Food has arrived burnt or with missing elements to some dishes and I wasn’t told when ordering. Woefully understaffed so takes an age to order and receive food. Customer service is poor but this could be due to understaffing or just poor service. It used to be really good, but portions have reduced prices are the same if not more and customer service has gone down hill. The two stars are for how good it used to be.
