The Mill House

Mum has been a resident at The Mill House since August 2021. Her room is a good size, always kept clean & tidy and we have been allowed to personalise it with items from home. Mum isn’t the best at eating or drinking but staff will monitor her intake & also go above & beyond to cook her something she will eat. Activities within the home have increased a lot recently from singers, armchair keep fit, lollipop ponies, cooking and painting to name but a few. The staff have done fantastic work with Mum to help her settle in and they have also supported the family with this. They have a hairdressing salon on site, regular podiatry visits and great links with the local GP surgery. We also have regular relative meetings; you can call to at any point to check on your relative and you are also called when there are any medical changes you need to be aware of. If you want a smaller more family run care home, where the staff know you and your family by name then Mill House is the one for you. The decision to put my mum in a care home was the hardest we have ever made, but I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for fantastic care for their loved one. It is so nice the see the relationships she has built with the staff, and for her to now happily wave us off when we leave. All you want for your parent is for them to feel safe & happy and without a doubt this is the stage my mum is at now. All credit to the staff.

I have a friend who sadly experienced the lack of compassion and empathy from the management of this care home during the time they lived there. The lockdown rules and regulations were draconian to say the least. The carers themselves were all lovely but were unable to provide the necessary compassion to residents and their relatives and friends due to unnecessary restrictions like 15 minute video calls and visits. 15 minutes!!!! Whilst other care homes were allowing garden visits and visits that lasted a reasonable amount of time, these were denied to anyone with no good reason apart from that the garden belonged to the residents. I would definitely NOT recommend this care home.

Sadly, I cannot write a positive review about this home as I was not allowed to visit my mum at all for 13 months and then for only 30 minutes each week until the last 5 days of her life. She was severely disabled, bed bound and confined to her room. My 'Skype' sessions were all in the presence of a member of staff ( I counted over 24) many of whom were strangers and facilitated the calls which were at times limited to 15 minutes. Mine and my Mum's human rights were completely disregarded. I am finding it very difficult to come to terms with the lack of compassion and understanding shown to me and my mother by the Management team who did nothing to alleviate our distress. Safe visiting was achieved in other Care Homes after the first lockdown whilst I was still shut out .

The staff go above and beyond for their residents and their families. They understand what a difficult decision it is having to put your loved one in a care home and the help and support they have given and continue to give my wonderful mum and my family is outstanding. Would highly recommend
