Welcome to The Old Bakery Bed and Breakfast

a Fabulous 5 Star Gold Award Bed and Breakfast in Pulham Market, Norfolk

∼ Now available to book as a self catering holiday let ∼

Come and stay at The Old Bakery in the beautiful South Norfolk countryside. You’ll find us in the Waveney Valley village of Pulham Market, just 10 minutes away from the country market towns of Diss and Harleston. Pulham Market is a small but perfectly formed, quintessential Norfolk village, with traditional Village Green, charming period cottages, thatched roofs, two pubs and beautiful scenery.

The perfect location for a short break with beautiful countryside on the doorstep, plenty to do nearby and the lively city of Norwich with an abundance of live entertainment venues, historic architecture and excellent shopping a short drive away.

Easy to get to, The Old Bakery is just an hour and 40 minutes from J28 of the M25 and the same travel time takes you from the mainline station at Diss to London Liverpool Street.

This is a delightful listed building, with wattle and daub walls and a timber frame, exposed internal beams and bags of character. Dating from 1580, The Old Bakery was initially established in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I as the main bakery for the Pulhams, although the last baker retired in 1951. The building has been in continuous use for more than 400 years, as a bakery, a restaurant and now as a home to the current owners, Jim and Theresa, and a boutique bed and breakfast. From 2021 this beautiful home is also available as a self-catering holiday let should guests prefer to book the whole house and be fully independent.

The Old Bakery has four spacious en-suite bedrooms, private parking for guests, and a delightful garden complete with Garden Room. The large, comfortable lounge / breakfast room features a small library, piano, exposed beams, and a beautiful fire making this a warm and cosy retreat in winter and a cool haven in summer.

Please note that we do not accommodate children under 16 years of age or dogs in the bed and breakfast however, this does not apply to self-catering holiday lets.

Looking For A Special Occasion Treat?

We aim to make every stay at The Old Bakery special but if you’re planning your visit to celebrate a special occasion or as a surprise for a loved one why not make it extra special with flowers, chocolates or a home baked cake waiting when you arrive.

We’re also happy to make recommendations for a special meal and to book tables in advance – always advisable as some of the best local establishments get booked up early.

We stayed at The Old Bakery for two nights over the weekend. The Old Bakery is a lovely, well kept and welcoming place, set in a lovely quiet village. This was our first visit and we loved every minute of our stay. The Owners are Jim and Theresa, they are such lovely and friendly people. From the minute you arrive, to the minute you leave, you are made to feel welcome and treated like part of the family. We are so glad that we found this lovely place and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Theresa makes her own jams, marmalades, etc and they are lovely. Before we arrived we sent through our dietary requirements as one of us was Vegan and Jim and Theresa made sure that the dietary requirements were catered for. Theresa asked if we would like any specific plant based milks, meat free sausages, etc. We had an amazing lunch/hamper made by Jim and Theresa. The quality and quantity was fantastic, way beyond what we were expecting. WOW! When we arrived we were met at the door by Theresa and greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. Theresa showed us to our beautiful room. Jim and Theresa had made some shortbread biscuits and they had even gone out and purchased some vegan biscuits for me. The whole stay was perfect from start to finish. We did not want to leave as it felt so homely and such a lovely environment. Jim and Theresa are amazing hosts and amazing people. The Old Bakery is such a lovely property and has a lot of history. We will be returning in the very near future. What a fantastic stay and what fantastic hosts. Thank you Jim and Theresa. Many thanks, Dave and Bev.
