Lynne and Graham moved into the Wheatsheaf on the 6th of October 2008. The Wheatsheaf has stood at the heart of the Wetheral community since the beginning of the 19th century. The Wheatsheaf Inn was open for much of the 19th century, surviving when many other public house in Wetheral where closed. The Wheatsheaf came under state control in 1916 until its sale in 1973.
The Village of Wetheral is just a couple of miles from Carlisle in the north of Cumbria sits the thriving and rather affluent village of Whetheral. less than that from the A69 Carlisle to Newcastle route, and has a station on the railway line linking those two cities – it is not surprising that Wetheral, while still nominally a village, has evolved into a commuter town for Carlisle.

Kath Clark5 StarFirst time we've been here for a few years and we both really enjoyed it. Fast and friendly service, food was fab. I had cheese and leek sausages they were delicious. Two of us two courses each and a soft drink less than £50. Good to see a village pub so busy.Friday 26th August 2022
Andrea Hawkins5 StarVisited when we stayed in Carlisle on way north. Found it by chance. Lovely pub, really busy but we were served quickly. Beer and wine were great. Didn't eat but the food looked and smelt amazing. Will pop in next time we pass !Thursday 14th April 2022

Jillie R Ashley5 StarOn our way back from Northumberland we wanted to stop for food. Called here as reviews were good. Food wasn’t on on Tuesdays but the landlord books a fish n chip van in the carpark and you can get a drink from the bar and food from the van and sit outside. Really lovely experience and just what we fancied. I can highly recommend the pub especially on a Tuesday. Chippy tea is a must !! Brilliant idea too.Wednesday 22nd June 2022
